I have this book five stars because I like going back in time and I looooove history.I love the fact that Misty used The Pony Express as a backdrop because there's just not enough written about the express. It's a fascinating time and I found it interesting that was how our mail used to get carried aroundI strongly recommend this book for people who love history and especially the pony express

What a heartfelt story. Fear and joys all rolled into one. Growing to be the man or woman God wants us to be isn't always easy. Sometimes we fight to gain control thinking we know what is best.God allows us mere humans to make mistakes but he is always there to help us when we realize we can't do it alone, and when we ask him to help us.Josiah and Mara both thought they could control their lives. Four years being alone and separated from each other was hard on them both, but each turned to God and instead of doing things their way they gave their lives over to God and followed his direction.Want to know what made them break up or find out if they ever got back together? What happened in those four years? Well I wholeheartedly recommend this book to you! It's fabulous, it's a keeper to be read over and over again.

Josiah dreams of owning his own horse ranch, and hires on as a Pony Express rider to earn the money he needs; he doesn't count on getting injured, the Pony Express closing, or falling in love with Mara, who runs his home station with her two brothers.(Though reviews are inherently subjective, I prefer to provide some organization to my opinions through the use of a personal rubric. The following notes may contain spoilers.)Plot and Setting: 4 -- Plot has unique elements and no major holes, but a few shaky bits. An interesting story about the end of the Pony Express, as well as the complexities of family life in the wilderness. Several elements surprised me along the way (like the addition of Katherine, and the 4-year jump through time), but it worked well as a story. The Indian raid didn't feel completely connected to the rest of the story, and the rebuilding afterward seemed too glossed over, but that's my only real complaint. Setting is clear and believable. Timeline stays pretty true overall, though a few more exact reference points along the way would've been appreciated. I liked how it fit into the actual historical timeline.Characters: 4 -- Main characters are relatable, realistic, interesting, and dynamic. The ups and downs Josiah and Mara experience, both individually and together, seemed reasonable and genuine overall. I enjoyed how Josiah's skill and affinity for cooking was accepted; it's nice to sometimes see gender stereotypes overturned, especially in historical fiction. Some minor characters have depth, while others may be slightly stereotyped or simplified. Mara's brothers definitely have distinct personalities, but there's not necessarily a lot of depth to them in this story. Katherine is pretty much just adorable. Definite strong points in the relationships between characters.Mechanics and Writing: 4.5 -- Few, if any, typos or word errors. Good use of POV (mainly Josiah and Mara, but one section is Ezra). Generally skillful writing. Only a few small issues: Several times the second paragraph in a chapter is oddly not indented, words like cardinal and buttercup are sometimes unnecessarily capitalized, and there are a few minor inconsistencies.Redeeming Value: 4 -- Partially focused uplifting themes or lessons. Mara's initial willingness to love and trust Josiah is wounded when he leaves, and she struggles to forgive him enough to open herself to trust and love again--but with prayer and time, she does. Josiah credits the positive changes in his life to the faith he learned from Mexican missionaries in California. He learns that he never truly had control over his life, so surrendering control to God can only bring good things. Sex, alcohol, violence, etc, are not glorified, though there is some off-screen violence related to the Indian raids that happened along the Pony Express/telegraph line, including the destruction of the Reids' home.Personal Enjoyment: 4.5 -- I liked it a lot. Highly enjoyable and very entertaining. One I'll definitely read again.

A Pony Express Romance will grab your attention on the first page and keep you turning pages til the end! I fell for Josiah right off and was rooting for him through the entire story. His attraction to Mara was filled with comedic romantic tension especially when he helps her improve her cooking. The characters were well-written and realistic. The author once again laced her story with the kind of rich historical details that bring me back to her novels over and over again.

Let me start off by saying I will be reading more books by Misty Beller! With close attention to historical accuracy, she spins a tale that had my attention right away. Mara, the lead female, is like many women; hard working, more talented in certain skills then men, and leary of love after being burned. She and her brothers run the Rocky Ridge Pony Express and stage coach station in a remote part of Wyoming. Challenges and trouble make all the characters make decisions; some of which they will uphold, while regretting others after God's wisdom helps them see

Enjoyed another great book by Misty BELLER. I had read another of her books and enjoyed it. Josiah, Mara, ZECH, EZRA and little Katie made quite the family. Josiah time with the pony express helped him to grow it also brought love into his life by way of Mara. But that happy romance would be tested by the closing of the pony express and Josiah loosing his job and his chance for buying his ranch. It brought heartache as well for Mara because Josiah left so abruptly. But that heartache was soon lessened by the coming of little Katie and her brothers love as well. It took Josiah four years to gain the money for his ranch and to go back to Mara. He didn't know what to expect when he went back to Wyoming from California. He had a good reception from Ezra and Zech was a little stand offish because he didn't want to see Mara hurt again. Josiah took it slow getting to know Mara once again and also getting know little Katherine or Katie as he started calling her. But Katie fell in love with him right off. Zech and Ezra helped him build his ranch and also supplied the broodmares for it. Josiah and Mara love came to life once again and grew stronger. Even when trouble came there way Josiah knew that he wanted Mara and Katie in his life forever. Looking forward to reading ZECH and EZRA love stories in the next two books. I ordered the second one after finishing this one.
