I traveled to Medico City and the to Playa Del Carmen, I haven't been to Mexico before and I had only about 4 days in each place. This guide was the perfect travel companion, I even found my hotel (one of the Guide recomendations) and it was perfectly located as the guide said. This was a very good trip, I saw a lot of this, ate on a lot of good places and I think this helped me make the most out of my vacation. Lonely planet is a must if you don't know any locals in the place you are traveling too. Just be sure to always have the lastes verion if the guide for the place you are visiting.

What can I say? It is another Lonely Planet book giving detailed account of the places you ought to go, things you may want to see, and food you should eat.I always enjoy the detail with which Lonely Planet's writers describe the world town by town, down to recommended seasons to visit and things to look out for while you're there.I would recommend this book for anyone traveling in Mexico. It always excited me when a local would advise me of something to see, visit, or do, and I already knew of it because of this book. A must have, and I would recommend pairing it with the Lonely Planet Guide to Central America on a Shoestring.

Every entry in the LP was open and of better than average quality. I have used a lot of LPs and some do not seem to be updated at all. Others have seemingly mediocre or outright bad places recommenced. With the exception of a bad address this was spot on. The toll roads in Mexico have gotten a lot more expensive than described in the back, but I doubt that is LPs fault. I really enjoyed my trip more because I had this book.Top tip: cover yours in brown paper before you go. It will protect the book and make you look less obvious as a tourist.

I thought the weight savings would be worth buying the eBook version, but they are ABSOLUTELY not. Lonely Planet is just not making any effort to make this book useable on an eBook reader. I read about say restaurant X in the "Eating" section, so I wanna see where it is on the map. I click "Map" and I see the map, except it's unreadably small, so it's followed by 4 pages, one for each of the quadrants of the map, enlarged to fill a full page. Now, Lonely Planet didn't bother to include the map coordinates in the "Eating" section where I read about the restaurant, so I first have to find it in the map key. So I have to scroll forward 5 pages past the 4 quadrants to find the map key (and in some cases even farther, e.g. the Oaxaca center map key is 3 pages past the map itself for no apparent reason). Probably have already forgotten the name of the restaurant by now, but if not, I find out it's like E13 in grid square B3. Which quadrant was B3 in? No way to know, depends on the size of the map grid, just gotta scroll back through them all. OK, there it is, but how do I get there from where I am? Now I gotta find which quadrant of the map my current location is in. Found, OK so I'm going north on Y Street from quadrant 4 (lower right), means I gotta find the continuation of Y Street in quadrant 2 (upper right)... OK 15 minutes later I figured out where it is and it's farther than I want to walk, so let's go back and look at other restaurants. Except the back key no longer takes me back to the "Eating" section, it takes me back to the map index or quadrant 2 or some other random place...This is really the worst, worst way to structure an electronic travel guide (short of having no table of contents at all). Also Kindle's shitty bookmarking system makes it basically impossible to dog-ear things that interest you to come back to later (you can bookmark pages, but the bookmarks have no labels, so you just end up with a list of 60 random "locations" and a little snippet of text from the top of the page, good luck figuring out which bookmark you were looking for, especially if the text that interested you was at the bottom of that page).Bring all your vacay reading on your Kindle but for God's sake, bring your travel guide in hardcopy form. 2 stars just 'cause Lonely Planet is still a good guide.

the worst lonely planet book ever used. no index listed. no detailed information. e.g. while in Cancun, simply 2 clubs listed. no comments or detailed information about their merits or demerits, not even price or cover fee mentioned, not to mention how to take the public transportation to get there. concerning mexico city, no information about how to get to the famous anthropology museum by means of public transportation, for example, which metro station is near. also, concerning Cancun, no mention of Yellow transfer or other shuttle information. about the Marcket 28 or Market 23 mentioned, no information on how to get there by means of public transportation.in comparison with one friend's Frommer one and 2 bus travellers' "Rough Guide to Mexico" , this lonely planet one is far inferior.also concerning Campeche, although it mentions 5 daily buses to Merida via Uxmal, yet no information about bus schedule.considering this lack of critical information and scant information available, it's really not worth a buy. buy instead "rough guide" or Frommer. my biggest disappointment. i strongly demand a refund.

I bought this guide for my trip; I have a kindle so I decided to use that version and I've found it very useful. My only complain is about the maps, because they use the paperback maps while the kindle could use more accurate or better viewing ones. Prices also need update, but I supposse that's not that easy to improve. I would recomend this guide to anyone travelling to Mexico. Don't buy the specialized editions like Yucatan or DF because those are extracts from this guide, so if you're back you already have the info.Ah one more thing, I left for 23 days and used the guide all the time and never needed to recharge my Kindle, so no more heavy travel guides for me anymore :)
